Wii has been in the headlines a lot lately (see here and here). It's time to let some more rumors start flying about, because of a new patent Nintendo was recently granted concerning the online Wii functionality (link).
The patent mentions some interesting features, including a fully customizable user profile, buddy list, in-game messaging, and even proprietary e-mail functionality.
If Nintendo incorporates all the claims that are in this parent into their online Wii interface, the system could arguably have the most comprehensive Wi-Fi service of any video game console to date.
And with the Wii Connect 24 feature (see info at Digg), the floodgates are open for never-ending communication possibilities between Wii owners. I'm going to have to stop typing before I start slobbering over the possibilities for such a functional online service for a Nintendo system.
