T-Mobile Gives Parents a Big Sigh of Relief

It's one of the most common cell phone-related cases on Judge Judy -- someone's kid racks up a huge bill with the expectation that their parents will pay it no matter how astronomical it is (and then the divorced, unemployed, ex-convict parents fight about who should foot the bill). But T-Mobile doesn't want that extra money anymore. They've rolled out a new service that ensures a kid's phone bill does not exceed $19.99 per month.
The service is called kidConnect (link), and it essentially closes the phone after the 50 anytime mintues per month allotment is depleted. There is, however, unlimited weekend calling and free T-Mobile - to - T-Mobile calling. For additional minutes during any given month, you can purchase T-Mobile prepaid cards to add to the phone.
This announcement comes less than 24 hours after Verizon announced a kid-friendly cell phone service, so it's tough not to make a comparison. Plus, on T-Mobile's kidConnect website, it says, "Let’s face it – kids don’t want kid phones – they want cool phones. This plan works with any phone you choose to purchase – so you can decide together on a phone you both like for them."
Since Verizon's service is limited to only one "kid phone", T-Mobile is obviously trying to differentiate themselves from Verizon.
