Gold, Platinum, & Multiplatinum Ringtone Designations

Your trivia fact for the day is that ringtones now account for 10% of all music sales. That's really amazing. That means a lot of people are actually paying the ridiculous $2.99 price for a ringtone that expires after 90 days. Anyway, the Recording Industry Association of America announced Wednesday that the official designations of gold, platinum, and multiplatinum were assigned to the ringtone industry.
In total, 84 gold honors were announced, in addition to 40 platinums and 4 multiplatinums. Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, 50 Cent, and Kanye West were just some of the artists whose songs were honored.
Only ringtones that were created from the actual artists are eligible for these certifications. Read the full story
