The summer solstice officially began at midnight yesterday, and while it's mainly an arbitrary designation, it's true that for the next few months most of us will be exposed to UV rays a-plenty. That's why Oregon Scientific has come out with the Personal UV Monitor.
The 3.125 × 1.75 × .75 in device calculates how long you should stay out in the sun based on your skin type and what type of sunblock you put on. It then automatically detecs the UV level and tells you how long it's safe to stay outside before you have to worry about sun burns.
It has a countdown timer so you don't have to keep track yourself of how long you've been outside. If you're one of those people who burns very easily (like me), then this affordable $30 device may be your lifeline to an enjoyable summer.
