DivX today announced that the latest edition to Casio's Exilim line, the EX-S600D, is the very first Casio digital camera to have DivX certification. This means that your digital videos will be immediately encoded for playability on over 1,500 devices, such as DVD players and portable video players.
Bill Holmes, VP of consumer electronics at DivX, says, "By creating high-quality video in the DivX format, users can easily share and distribute their personal content across a wide range of devices, an advantage that is not offered by other digital video technologies that are confined to the PC or one kind of portable device."
The 6-megapixel EX-S600D is due out in early July but will initially only be available to French and German consumers, and it will only be sold online.
As someone who captures digital videos all the time and then has to convert them into all kinds of different formats, I know how ideal it is to have a camera automatically capture in such a widely accepted format as DivX. I'm looking forward to when this one gets launched stateside.
