Microsoft Refutes 360 Price Drop Speculation

Less than a week ago, the Internet was all ablaze about news from so-called "insiders" that Microsoft was planning a pretty major price drop this fall, presumably to put themselves back in the market spotlight when the PS3 and Wii are released for the holiday season.
Apparently, you can say goodbye to that prospect. John Porcaro, a Microsoft PR guy, recently stated, "As you're all aware, there have been rumors of a price drop for the Xbox 360 coming along later this year. The official word from folks in the know is that there are currently no plans for a price drop this fall."
I guess this makes sense. Since all the new consoles are successors, most early adopters have already grown an attachment to one or two specific consoles, and their minds are made up as to which next-gen systems they want. Nintendo fanatics probably won't turn an eye and pick up an Xbox 360 on the Wii launch day just because of a price drop.
Plus, Microsoft only has a few more months of being the only next-gen console already for sale. By confirming a price drop later in the year, they'd essentially give up a lot of the prospective buyers during these next few months when they don't have to compete with the other two.
