Sony announces new VAIO UX Micro PCs with 16GB SSD (flash memory drives) in Japan. Sony tries to stay on the ball in the SSD game. Samsung already announced the Q1 UMPC with SSD a month ago. Most likely is the 16GB flash memory anyway made by Samsung.

The Sony VAIO VGN-UX90PS runs Windows XP Professional on an Intel Core Solo U1400 (1.20GHz), while the VGN-UX90S runs Windows XP Home on a Core Solo U1300 (1.06GHz).

The SSD drive brings about approximately 3-6 times faster application start-ups, 13% longer battery life and the weight is 28g lower.

The new VAIO UX90 Micro PCs also feature wansegu (OneSeg) digital TV tuner. The new VAIO UX Micro PCs with SSD start selling on July 3rd for 209,800 Yen (~$1,800).
More details in this Sony press-release (Japanese).

The US bound VAIO VGN-UX180P is available for pre-order and is soon shipping.
