Korean mid-sized mobile phone maker VK was actually close to insolvency. Telecoms Korea (subscription) reports that Motorola seems to be coming to rescue VK and invests in the company.
Sources close to the deal say that the deal involves Motorola acquiring convertible bonds in VK and a large-scale ODM deal.
VK mobile makes some nice slim mobile phones. The company won the 2006 Red Dot Design Award for the 8.8mm slim VK2000 music phone.
VK is the only mid-size mobile phone maker in Korea that competes with the large manufacturers like Samsung, LG and Pantech.
