Japanese students will soon be turning in homework assignments to the creator of Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani. Yes, unfortunately that means he will be leaving the world of Namco, where he had worked for 30 years and attained an administrative position. Now he'll be a full-time lecturer at Tokyo Polytechnic, who had earlier approached him with the offer.

Says Iwatani, "It will become very hard to train staff in-house, as was done in the past. As a result, the educational institutions must follow through. However, Japan is far behind in the field of game education compared with the US, Europe, Korea, and China." Iwatani had previously lectured at the university as a visiting professor, and apparently something about the experience made him want to give up his veteran position at Namco. How unbelievably awesome for the future students of Tokyo Polytechnic.
