The news just broke that Microsoft, which had been facing problems with Europe for antitrust violations, will be forced to pay a pretty respectable size fine, up to 300 million euros (close to $400 million).
In March of 2004, the European Commission set forth specific guidelines for Microsoft to follow, which the company has failed to do. If Microsoft does not pay the fine by the end of the month, it will increase at the rate of as much as 3 million euros per day.
Obviously Microsoft is no stranger to legal troubles when it comes to antitrust regulations, so this isn't an enormous blow to them, but it does let them know that Europe is serious about Microsoft's seemingly monopolistic abuse.
