Other Stuff

There's an interesting Reuters story that just came across the wires about blogging. It's mostly a bunch of numbers and statistics, with the emphasis being put on whether or not bloggers consider themselves as journalists.

Based on polling of all kinds of blogs (from some guy's 2-day venture at MySpace to professional political blogs), the survey found that 77% of bloggers don't blog to get noticed or to make money, but rather just to have an outlet to express themselves.

Additionally, the study found that 8% of Internet users (12 million people) have their own blogs, and that 39% (57 million people) read blogs on a regular basis. Only 34% of bloggers referred to their blogs as a source of "journalism". The report also broke down the content of blogs on the net:

Personal experiences/life: 37%
Politics: 11%
Entertainment: 7%
Sports: 6%
News: 5%
Religion: 2%

Apparently the surveyers had a good chunk of bloggers who just didn't know what to call themselves. 82% said they'll still be around in a year.
