It's been fun to watch the whole pre-order thing unfold for this next generation of consoles ever since the shortage problem with the Xbox 360. Countries that didn't run into that problem are already allowing pre-orders, but the US retailers have learned from history. That's why Lik-Sang.com's approach is probably the best American idea we've seen so far.

Anyone can place a "pre-order" on the PlayStation 3, with no money down (initially). All you're doing is grabbing a spot in Lik-Sang's line. When they have some idea of how many they'll be getting, you then have the option of putting down a deposit or cancelling your pre-order. Obviously it's a first-come first-served operation here, and knowing Lik-Sang you'll probably end up paying more than the retail price. But hey, with no money down, you may as well go ahead and reserve a spot. Of course, it's possible that it's already too late to get a console from their first shipment, even though they just put the pre-order page up.
