PlayStation 4 To Not Use Discs?

Boy, Sony sure is cocky. We don't even know everything about the PlayStation 3 yet and they're already talking about the PlayStation 4. Sure it was just a very brief mention, but apparently it's just a given that there will be a PS4.
Anyway, here's what I'm ranting about. It's not even really rant-worthy. Sony's global President Phil Harrison recently claimed, "I’d be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive." I wonder if this is just wild speculation or if they are really beginning extremely preliminary planning on their plans for 2010.
Two interesting things are brought out into the open by this statement. First of all, we all know that Sony is a big name in the world of Blu-ray and are using the PS3 to further promote the format. Is Sony confident enough with the potential for Blu-ray that they don't think they'll need the PS4 to help them? Or have they already given up?
Also, what would a no-disc console mean for backward compatibility, which the PlayStation brand is so famous for? Well, the point here really is...who cares about PS4 right now? It's too far in the future. But it will be fun to link back to this story four years in the future when we get the next details about Sony's next console.
