The Oxygen Network, known to most men as "that channel you skip to get to G4", recently published the findings of a survey they conducted, and the results show that women like technology just about as much as men. Among other statistics, the study showed that 46% of women do their own computer trouble-shooting.
Geraldine Laybourne, an executive at Oxygen, says, "People make the assumption that women are not as advanced as men when it comes to technology and I was surprised at the parity men and women now have in terms of technology." The survey also shows promise to guys who are about to be newlyweds.
Yes, instead of buying your fiance a brand new diamond necklace, get yourself (I mean, "her"...) a big-screen plasma TV. That's right - according to the survey, 77% of women would rather have a plasma TV than an expensive piece of jewelry. It's almost like our prayers have been answered. Of course, I'm sure most women wouldn't mind getting something that was a mix between jewelry and technology. But that's beside the point.
Other interesting stats include that 86% would rather have a digital camera over a pair of designer shoes, and that 56% would take the plasma TV over a trip to Florida. So the next time your wife asks you to spend thousands of dollars on some expensive vacation, do her a favor and get her a fancy TV instead. She'll appreciate it more.
This trend in female acceptance of technology is expected to rapidly increase. You can read the full story and see more survey results at CNN.com
