I could write a witty intro to this story, but I think David Ewalt's lead-in sentence in a recent article for Forbes fits the most perfectly: "Forget Microsoft's Bill Gates, Sony's Nobuyuki Idei, or Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata. The most powerful person in the videogame industry isn't a CEO--he's a plumber."
Seemingly out of nowhere, Forbes took a look at some of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. Surprising no one, Mario is the all-time king, having been in over 140 games (wow!).
Also mentioned are Lineage from NCSoft (whose popularity is thanks primarily to Asian sales) and the always famous World of Warcraft, in addition to the always infamous Grand Theft Auto.
