According to research done at Loughborough University, Nokia is officially the Cadillac Escalade of cell phones. That's kind of a dubious distinction, though. Just as the Escalade is reportedly the most likely car to be stolen, Nokia handsets are the ones that mobile tech thieves love to get their mits on.
Assumedly because of their high re-sell value, Nokia phones completely dominates the list. Almost half of all stolen phones are manufactured by Nokia, according to the research.
In fact, the Nokia 6230 accounts for an amazing 15% of all cell phone thefts. That's more than all of the Samsung phones combined, which is also the case for Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Here's the complete breakdown:
Nokia: 55,783 (49%)
Samsung: 15,524 (13.6%)
Sony Ericsson: 15,090 (13.3%)
Motorola: 12,947 (11.4%)
Others: 14,451 (12.7%)
So if you've got a Nokia phone hanging out of your coat pocket or something, you're basically telling muggers "come and get me", whereas if you're showing off your Samsung A900, any sophisticated pickpocket won't even bother.
