In my opinion, Nintendo has stretched out this whole Wii thing a little too long. Pricing rumors have become so commonplace that we've all become a little numb to them. So this latest one may just be another rumor to toss onto the pile, but the fact that it is a Japanese financial institution makes us take it a bit more seriously.
Tokyo-based Nikko Citigroup is now predicting a retail price for the Wii of nearly 20,000 yen, which roughly equates to $170. What's most interesting about this is that the same institution made a prediction a while ago of a 25,000 yen price. Clearly, the Wii will in fact be even cheaper to make than previously thought.
This isn't anything official, of course, but it does bring back some gleam of light on the wide speculation that a Wii core system will only cost $200.
