YouTube, the site that lets you "broadcast yourself", one of the top 10 sites in the world, has actually not seen any kind of monumental revenue, unlike other popular sites like Google. They're looking for ways to change that, and recently they unveiled a couple new features that aim at helping their bottom line.

First up is the idea of specialized, sponsored YouTube channels. Unfortunately for most people with good taste, the flagship channel they've launched is the Paris Hilton channel, and it is sponsored by Fox, by way of a minimally invasive banner ad on the channel's main page. Also unveiled was front-page video ads, which act just like regular YouTube videos (people can comment, rate, etc), except that the person who posts the video has to pay to have it features on YouTube's home page. The fact that the first of these, a trailer for the movie "Pulse", got nearly a million views in four days, would definitely make this an enticing option for advertisers.
