A filing on the FCC site appeared from Toshiba that shows a digital audio player that resembles the photo of the Microsoft Zune that floats around. What do we make of this?
Microsoft did not piss off after all their hardware partners in the portable media player area. They still make the hardware. The latest Toshiba Gigabeat players are also not that different looking from the Zune.
It is not clear at this point if Zune is even a player brand. Maybe its just the platform. It will be interesting how this plays out.
Wi-Fi is also no unique feature in portable media players anymore. Archos will start shipping their 604 30GB Wi-fi enabled player on September 1st.
More details about the Toshiba Zune FCC discovery on MobileWhack. Via Engadget (they have now several photos from the FCC filing up).
