According to the wire story that just came out this morning, Google "will begin selling advertising on Web auction leader eBay and help buyers quickly ring an online merchant to do business." Among other details, the partnership promises to intrdouce "click-to-call" technology to a very broad range of people. Additionally, eBay's Skype, which they bought last year, and Google Talk, will somehow be interconnected through this alliance.
In an interview last night, the CEO of eBay, Meg Whitman, said "We have a chance to create a whole new way for buyers and sellers to connect online and to create what we hope will be a significant revenue stream for both eBay and Google,"
Under the deal, Google will be the exclusive text advertiser on all international eBay sites, while Yahoo! will remain as the predominant ad provider for eBay in the US, due to an agreement struck between the two in May.
Google's CEO, when he wasn't trying to defend competing against PayPal and then partnering with the company that owns it, had this to say: "This is all about speed. The moment somebody wants to buy something, we want that advertiser to be able to sell it, hawk it or do whatever they want with it."
