Sony Makes Fire-Resistant Plastic from DVD Discs

Japanese news paper Nikkei Business Daily Wednesday edition reports that Sony is able to produce a fire-resistant plastic made from discarded DVD discs.

The new fire-resistant plastic is made from 85% old DVD discs, a new fire retardant, styrene elastomer and inorganic filler powder.
Sony says the new fire-resistant plastic is better than the ones currently available and cheaper because of the use of waste material.

The new DVD disc plastic is going to be used for PC casings for example. Not sure how Sony got the idea to recycle DVDs. They must have a lot lying around or their Disc plants have lots of discarded discs.
