SanDisk announced today a new higher capacity SD card along with the high capacity CompactFlash card I talked about earlier. SD cards are used in most consumer based digital cameras and some PDAs and the new Ultra II SDHC card is a whopping 4GB in size. Write speeds for the new card are 9 MB/sec and read speeds are 10 MB/Sec.
For a limited time those who purchase the new 4GB SDHC cards will also get a free bundled card reader that is a $19.99 value. The reason for the bundling of the card reader is that SDHC cards require SDHC card readers; normal SD card readers are not compatible. However, the SDHC card reader will read standard SD cards as well. Only compatible SDHC cameras will be able to use the new Ultra II SDHC card. Anna Enerio, retail product marketing manager at SanDisk said, "The 4GB SanDisk Ultra II SDHC card and MicroMate reader bundle offers high capacity, proven performance and versatility at an exceptional value. We are confident that consumers will find this to be an ideal combination for storage-intensive applications such as digital cameras and video recording." Buy your own SD card here.
