The BenQ Mobile GmbH in Germany will file for Bankruptcy.
We reported about BenQ to be in talks to sell their mobile phone plants. Today in a surprising move, the Taiwanese BenQ headquarter says to not put more money into the German BenQ mobile daughter, which results in Bankruptcy.
3,000 employees might loose their job. The Trade Unions blame Siemens, who sold (gave away) the mobile phone business to BenQ about 1 year ago.
It is clear that BenQ wants to manufacture their mobile phones in Asia, where it is still cheaper. Looking back, BenQ got lots of exposure, maybe some know-how from the Siemens deal. Did they ever think it might be a profitable venture to build mobile phones in Germany?
More details in this Heise report (German) and in this story (German).
