Western Digital is introducing their new 1TB My Book Pro II external hard drive. The new drive is shipping configured for RAID 0, which spans data across both of the 500GB internal drives for 1TB of total storage space.
However, the new My Book can be configured to use RAID 1 where the data is mirrored between the two drives for security and redundancy should one of the drives fail. Connectivity for the new 1TB drive is via USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. One of the coolest features about the My Book Pro II is that while you get a whopping 1TB of storage, the footprint of the drive is a mere 26 square inches. Western Digital also made the My Book user serviceable. Following the included instructions, you can open the enclosure and service or replace defective drives.
