Zeiss has the perfect telephoto lens for the Paparazzi looking to take X-rays of celebrities while simultaneously compensating for their own shortcomings, the Zeiss Apo Sonnar T* 1700mm F4 lens.
The gargantuan lens pictured here weighs in at 564 pounds, or two Rosanne Barr’s, and holds the record for the largest telephoto lens in the world for civilian use. How much magnification can you get out of this beast? Zeiss says the lens has a 21x magnification. Not so much as you might expect given the size of the lens. Thanks to the sheer girth of the lens, special mechanisms for focusing and aiming it were developed incorporating servos. No word on the cost of this thing, or the use the person who custom ordered it has in mind. Perhaps they intend to take photos of satellites in orbit, sort of a reverse Google Earth. Buy your own much more reasonable Zeiss lens here.
