Sharp is a very active innovator when it comes to LCD displays. Just look at their latest accomplishment, the triple view LCD display. Last week Sharp announced a new display design for use in cars with high contrast ratio.
The new display features a contrast ratio of 1,500:1, 400cd/m2 brightness and a resolution of 800x480px with an 8 inch size.
Sharp says the LCD panel can display a black common on instrument panels giving the impression to the driver of looking at a conventional instrument panel. When the car stops a video display or the images of the rear view camera are shown.
More details in this Sharp press-release (Japanese).
