What would you end up with if your CD and your flash drive hooked up after a drunken night of partying? A good idea of what the offspring would look like is a new technology called XCD.
XCD is a combination of the CD and flash drive technologies. You have a CD with content, like music, that plays on current common CD and DVD players like normal. However, on one side of the XCD you have a USB connector for connecting to your PC.
The designers of the XCD see it as the perfect device for preventing piracy. The flash portion of the XCD would hold encryption keys and the actual tunes would be on the optical disk like usual. The tunes or flicks wouldn’t be able to play without the USB portion being first plugged into the PC. RIAA must be so proud.
