First Step in Real Cloaking Technology Made

Researchers from the US and UK designed a cloak that prevents microwaves from detecting objects. You still can see the object, but in the microwave spectrum its invisible.

At the Wired Nextfest 2004 a Tokyo University project showed a more impressive solution, but it requires a video camera and a special lens. Cloaking uses a special metamaterial (see photo above) to deflect the microwaves around the object inside.
The research work is reported in a paper in last Friday's issue of the Science Magazine.
