Digitimes is reporting that Intel's top-of-the-line Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad core CPU will sell for $999 in 1000 unit lots when they launch next month. Supposedly the quad core Q6600 set for January release will retail for $851.
Intel’s roadmap is said to expect quad core CPU’s take account for only 3% of their entire processor sales volume for a full year after the launch of the quad core parts. Prices should come down towards the end of the third quarter of 2007 when the next gen quad core CPUs code named Yorkfield launch. This time frame happens to coincide for what Digitimes claims to be the launch window for AMDs quad core parts. I have heard earlier time frames for AMD to launch quad core parts myself.
