Researchers at HP have worked with an independent charity called U.K. Historic Royal Palaces that conserves and cares for five palaces to design an interactive location-aware adventure game for visitors to the Tower of London grounds.
The game is played with HP IPAQ devices that use GPS with different physical locations on the palace grounds triggering information and characters on the IPAQ screens. The triggered files contain voices, images, music and clues designed using HP Labs Mediascape authoring toolkit. The goal of the game is to introduce players to historical prisoners in the Tower of London and to help them escape the grounds. Historical figures in the game include people like Guy Fawkes and Anne Boleyn.
