NVIDIA Squashes Worries About the 8800 GTX "Recall"

We reported a few days ago that there was a problem on the 8800 GTX graphics cards, as did several other websites, leading to the 8800 GTX's being pulled back in to the factory for a last minute change. The original sample that I received from XFX and NVIDIA was an affected card and the problem was with system lockups after extended use.
The problem presented itself in my instance after playing…testing with… Battlefield 2142 for several hours. For the first couple hours the card performed flawlessly, then I started to get the dreaded “Blue Screen of Death” or BSOD as geeks lovingly refer to it. XFX got me a card the next day and I played…tested…with it literally half the night with not one single glitch.
NVIDIA and XFX want to assure consumers that as of today when the 8800 GTX cards launch, there is no problem with the cards performance and I can attest to that. NVIDIA had this statement to say about the problem:
