In case you did not believe the story that the Blu-ray Laser we reported about 10 days ago, here are photos of how Wicked Lasers is building one.

Wicked Lasers took the sparse blue laser diodes used in Blu-ray Disc drives and made a cool limited edition Laser gadget out of it called Sonar. If you wanto own one it costs you $1,999.99.

The photos show Wicked Lasers lead laser engineer, Dr. John Garner Ph. D. and his assistant.

The steps to create a Blu-ray pointer from a Blu- ray disc player are:
1 - The player covering is removed and the Blu-ray diode is extracted carefully from the drive.

2- The company has developed a PCB board to pair with the Blu-ray diode and optics are added to focus the laser beam.

3 - After testing the power output, the laser module (Diode + PCB + lenses + brass housing) is inserted into another brass casing for heat dissipation and to fit the casing.

4 - A single Cr-123A Lithium Ion battery is used to power the unit. The blu-ray laser dot has purple color and registers to have power of 23mW.
