The Pentagon has a project called the Prompt Global Strike Project that has spawned a cruise missile that is said to be able to hit Mach 5 (not Speed Racer’s car) and be anywhere on the globe in one hour.

Mach 5 comes out to 3,600 miles an hour and makes the Tomahawk missile that tops out at a measly 550 mph look snail like by comparison. Supposedly the missile destroys its target by crashing into it at top speed, I can only imagine the amount of kinetic energy this thing will have at 3,600 MPH. The pentagon is hoping to have a test missile by 2008, naturally the program is drawing protests that it could trigger a nuclear war, which is ironically the same thing they said when we invented the nuclear bomb.
