Seems Hitachi is out to make web browsing on a mobile phone more palatable with a new and massive (for a phone) LCD display that is 800 x 480 pixels wide and measures in at 2.9”.
I could totally see this screen integrated into a cool super thin PDA type smart phone. Personally, I think the small screen size is one of the things holding back many fellow geeks from getting data service for mobiles.
Add the large screen to the 3G data downloads and the likes of Sprint’s Rev A EVDO service and I am starting to see the day when I can surf the web on my smart phone without getting a migraine. This display also boasts a 170 degree viewing angle and a 400:1 contrast ratio. No phones using the panel have been announced at this time. Story and image via Engadget.
