Maybe hybrid Blu-ray/HD-DVD players will be one of the biggest topics at the CES 2007. LG Electronics announced that they will show a Dual-Format High-Definition Disc Player at the CES. The best part is that LG will actually sell the player in the first Quarter of 2007 in the United States.
NEC announced in October a Blu-ray/HD-DVD player to be available in 2007. Pioneer was on and off about a hybrid High definition disc player in 2006. The key to the new Dual-Format High-Definition Disc Players could be the Ricoh Optical component that reads Blu-ray and HD DVD.
This is great news for all of us who are sick of having to look twice if a movie is released on HD DVD or on Blu-ray.
I am also still waiting until the low-cost DVD player makers get into the high definition player market. The dual format HD technology could also be the trigger for them to start making affordable HD players.
More details in this LG press-release (Korean).
