Hitachi is following in the footsteps of Seagate and announcing that they will have a 1TB internal hard drive in the first quarter of 2007. The really interesting tidbit about the Hitachi drive is that it will sell for a positively bargain price of $399, that is a mere $0.40 per gigabyte.

Hitachi has three different versions of the 1TB drive coming our way; one is the standard Deskstar 7K1000, one is a version for DVR boxes and one will be an enterprise version with certified mean time between failures. Only the standard 1TB version will be launched at first with the other two following later.
The Deskstar 7K1000 will have five platters with each platter holding 200GB and will use perpendicular writing technology. The drive is a 7200 rpm SATA drive and will have a massive 32MB buffer and versions of the drive for SATA 3.0GB/s and ATA 133 will also be sold. Hitachi also says a 750 GB version will be available.
