Palm and Handspring are now PalmOne and PalmSource

Today shareholders of Palm approved the acquisition of rival Handspring Inc. and the subsequent split of Palm into two public companies.
The two new companies, handheld software maker PalmSource and device maker PalmOne, will trade independently for the first time on Wednesday.
PalmSource says that its independence will allow it to better negotiate licensing agreement with hardware makers, who previously might have been wary of dealing with a unit of their biggest competitor.

This is definitly is a smart move. PalmSource can now freely compete against Microsoft and Symbian. PalmOne needs to prove itself against Sony and even newcomers like Tapwave.
