Today marks the wrap up of CES 2007 and I have to say I was disappointed this year’s show a bit. Most of the big companies that I was interested in didn’t have new products to show off, they had released them weeks and sometimes months before. For instance Intel had no new products to show, nor did NVIDIA and the only thing that ATI has to really show off is a digital cable tuner that you can’t even buy retail and will rely completely on the cable companies to adopt.
The really cool and exciting gear at this year’s show that I was able to see was from smaller companies like Razer. That said the pace of CES is brutal on writer geeks. It seems that booths are too expensive and as a PR person from Linksys told me they can’t show off NDA items at the show for the most part. That means that you spend as much time with cab rides and meetings behind closed doors as you spend on the show floor, at least in my case, so I am sure I missed out on a lot of gear. In short there was some cool stuff I saw at the show but I can’t write about it. We will be continuing coverage in the coming days, and I have some exciting stuff to talk about with the most impressive piece being a video I shot of a speed comparison between a SSD and a HDD from the SanDisk. The web connection here is sketchy and I can’t upload big files period so I will post it next week. In short in the meetings I was in today there wasn’t much exciting to write about, without suffering the wrath of someone’s legal department anyway.
