Toshiba announced to leave the SED TV venture they have with Canon.
Canon will purchase from Toshiba all of Toshiba's outstanding shares of SED Inc.
As reason Toshiba puts forward the ongoing litigation between Canon and Nano-propriety, Inc.
Toshiba says in its press-release that the SED TVs are still to be introduced in Japan in the fourth quarter of 2007.
Toshiba is apparently still trying to release TVs based on SED technology. Not sure how they would do this now. I guess we will not hear anything about SED TVs in Q4. Lets rather focus on Laser TVs, which have been prominently missing at CES 2007.
SED Inc. was founded in 2004 and has 550 employees. SED stands for Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display.
More details in this Toshiba press-release. See also a statement regarding the Toshiba decision on the Nano-propriety, Inc. site.
