Chad Hurley, co-founder of YouTube said at the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland that Youtube will start sharing revenue with users starting in the next couple of month.
The first comment on digg.com about this news pretty much sums up the issues related with Youtube paying video creators. If you get paid for something you definitely need to have your copyrights in order.
The famous Youtube lip-sync videos are just an example of videos that do not have their copyrights in order. Also as soon as Youtube has your payee information, you can easily be tracked down if you upload copyright infringing material.
There are not that many original videos.
Lonelygirl15 is original, but they anyway already use Revver to generate revenue.
There is a good chance though that more original video will be created as you can make money with them. Youtube is a huge platform and with Google in the back generating revenue should also be not that hard. All in all this is good news for online video.
Not many details have been revealed yet. The news origins from this AP story.
