To install streaming music capability throughout the home might be one of the most popular projects for gadget enthusiasts this holiday season.
One inexpensive solution is offered by Slim Devices. The SLIMP3 Network Music Player streams the music over the network from a PC for decoding in the SLIMP3 hardware, to provide high quality audio output. Multiple SLIMP3 devices can be connected via the LAN to the same SLIMP3 Streaming server. Slim devices says a low end PC can handle up to a dozen SLIMP3 devices. The devices can be synchronized or operate completly indepently.
The SLIMP3 Streaming Servers Software is actually open source. It is available for free download. The software can also be used to stream over the internet to any player like WinAmp. This way users can listen to their own music library from work for instance.
Slim Devices sells the SLIMP3 Gadget for $239.00 on their shop.
