Matsushita Electric Industrial dominates the Plasma panel market with 40.1% market share in the October-December 2006 time frame. Still the company is not that happy about this success.
LG and Samsung dropped below 30% market share. Matsushita (Panasonic) even had a record quarter in terms of profit. Still the company said it is not necessarily a good thing to dominate the Plasma panel market and push out other manufacturers. It could hurt the market overall and therefore also Panasonic, who only bets on Plasma.
Plasma panels got under intense pressure from the LCD panels, which are now closing in on the sweet spot sizes of 42 and 50 inch and turn the price wheel downwards in a big way. Panasonic is still going to open another Plasma TV plant. Pioneer on the other hand stopped their plans to open another plant.
