One of the most overpriced items in the computer arena this side of anything with the Apple logo on it is ink for ink jet printers. We all know that it can be cheaper to buy a new printer than to replace your ink cartridges.

After all it’s not the printers that are the big money makers it is the ink that you have to replace. Take my Epson RX700, which uses six ink cartridges that each cost in the realm of $15. That means each time I need to replace the cartridges it costs me $90. Kodak is bringing to market new printers that use Kodak’s own inks that stop the ink rape we see now.
Kodak’s EasyShare 5500 printer faxes, scans, and prints documents and photos at lab-quality. Pictures take as little as 28 seconds to print. Kodak uses a two-cartridge ink system with one black tank and one six-color tank. The black cartridge only costs $9.99 and the color will run you $14.99. Kodak says with their ink system you will spend about 14 cents on ink for each photo your print. The printer is set to be available in March at an MSRP of $299.99.
