Japanese I-O Data announces portable 40GB Hard-Drive with MP3 Player function.

The GRANDISK (raw translation) is a retro looking piece of gadget. It is a portable hard-drive at its core, but has a SD Memory slot, a Display and is a full MP3 Player.
Because it has built-in Lithium ion battery (14hour playtime), the GRANDISK does not need an AC Adapter when using it as external Hard Drive. The Gadget can play WMA and MP3 and WAV file formats. The Drive features an USB 2.0 connector. The GRANDISK is bigger than the iPod with measurements of 78.9(W)x122.0(D)x26.5(H) mm. The Player weighs 264g.

The I-O Data Grandisk (MDM-H550) will sell for 54,800yen at the end of November.
