True geeks, especially those into Star Trek aren’t satisfied with a mortal remote, even one as cool at the Harmony 890, no they need something more well, something more geeky. The hard core Trekkie out there who already owns the Star Trek Voice Operated Dimmer can now own perhaps the coolest of all Star Trek gadgets, the phaser remote.
Not only does the remote look very similar to the original Star Trek phaser, it even has licensed sounds from the original series from Paramount Pictures. When you press the buttons to change channels you get real sounds from Star Trek.
Naturally after the first few minutes you’ll be tired of hearing the phaser sound and to that end there is a mute button that kills the sound effects. A library of codes should mean this remote will work with most any TV or AV device around. It seems they are sold out right now at Phone Phun, but more should be coming. Story and image via Gizmodo.
