If you like to watch HD programming in a dark room Philips has a 50 Plasma HDTV that uses their really cool Ambilight system that you should check out. The set is surrounded by light panels that glow to match the colors on screen.
The lights also help prevent eye fatigue by allowing for more consistent light levels in the room. The picture quality is great on the Philips Ambilight 50 inch HDTV 50PF9731D and it has a wealth of connectivity options along with a built-in memory card reader.
Review excerpt: One of my biggest peeves when reviewing HDTV sets is when the transitions between light and darks on screen loose detail and become pixilated looking blobs. Most all HDTVs I have reviewed do this to some extent, as does the 50 Philips Ambilight Plasma HDTV. Read the full Philips Ambilight 50 inch HDTV 50PF9731D review here.
