The days of the 20GB Sony PS3 might be soon over. Sony did not bring the lower-priced 20GB on the start in Europe and other PAL regions. Evidence that the 20GB model might disappear all together appeared over the weekend.
Joystiq obtained a printout from a Best Buy employee showing the 20GB Sony PS3 as discontinued. In a comment on that story a Circuit City employee claims to see a similar situation at his store. If you visit Gamestop you also just see the 60GB Sony PS3 on sale.
Demand for the 20GB model was way outdone by the premium 60GB Sony PS3 with Wi-Fi.
Sony might be able to save some more production costs and other overhead by just offering one Playstation 3 console. The European one with the software PS2 emulation might become the standard model world-wide.
Maybe Sony really tries to get into a position earlier than expected to offer the PS3 at a lower price point to speed up sales.
