Apparently, one of our soldiers, a Kevin Garrad, on patrol in Iraq came face to face with the business end of an AK-47. Reports say that the solider and an insurgent were literally only feet apart when gunfire was exchanged.
It seems that at close range a round form an AK-47 can penetrate the body armor worn by US soldiers. While the insurgent was killed in the exchange of gunfire, Garrad survived in part thanks to the iPod in his pocket that took the brunt of the bullet impact. While the bullet still penetrated the iPod it was slowed enough to keep the bullet from penetrating the body armor worn by Garrad. Over at Flickr there is a picture posted just like the one above by a person going by Tikigod. The comment sin the section claim that Apple became aware of the situation and while damage by gunfire isn’t covered on the warranty, they are supposedly replacing his iPod.
