TechCrunch breaks a rumor that eBay and social bookmarker StumbleUpon signed a term sheet to be acquired. eBay would pay around $40 million for StumbleUpon. No official confirmation is available from eBay or StumbleUpon yet.
At the same time Google released a new Google Toolbar feature that adds recommendation feature onto the toolbar based on your passed searches. Clicking on this button now is really just rolling a dice. The recommendations are not that interesting yet.
If the timely release of a feature that is in the category of StumbleUpon by Google has anything to do with the eBay deal is unclear.
More details on the new Google recommendation feature can be found on the Google Blog. Via TechCrunch.
The Web 2.0 deals are continued to enter the next round. Not sure if eBay is the right home for StumbleUpon. We will see if they find any synergies or if it is just another business field for the auction monster.
Mabye Google is adding a 'digg button' next to the toolbar to introduce the 'Social'.
