Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Sweetest Mustang Ever?

If this beast of a Mustang doesn’t get your heart pumping you are not a car guy (or girl). This is the hottest looking Mustang I have ever seen, and I say that knowing full well how fantastic looking and performing the original 68 GT500KR was. This car is too hot even for Ford to sell directly.
If you want this ultimate Shelby Mustang you have to start by buying your own “stock” Shelby GT500 Mustang from Ford and then deliver the already cool ride to the Shelby assembly facility in Las Vegas, and what better place than sin city to turn a car that already incites lustful urges in hoards of fans worldwide into something all together more sinister.
Shelby takes the mere mortal GT500KR and turns it into a Super Snake for about $10,000 (so Motor Trend says) and the build process takes a few weeks. What you get for your greenbacks is a car with an exterior similar to that of the GT500KR due in 2008 from Ford. You get the GT500KR hood, hood pins, Shelby stripes, brake ducts, and the same 20” forged Alcoa rims the GT500KR show car was shod in.
Inside the Shelby Super Snake gets new gauges including a boost/oil and fuel pressure gauge, Shelby sill plates, for racing short throw shifter and a numbered dash plaque. Under the hood is where the real magic is worked via a cold air intake, larger capacity Ford Racing super charger which gives this Snake over 600 horses and 590 ft-lb of torque, and still keep the factory warranty it seems. If you don’t mind forgoing your warranty Shelby can push that horsepower up to 725.
All that power is backed by a ford Racing handling pack and a lower 3.37 rear axel ratio and six-piston Baer brakes. While no performance numbers are given for the Super Snake, all that power should translate into so serious 0-60 and ¼ mile times. Consider that the GT500 has 500 hp and does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and you can get an idea of what the Super Snake will be capable of with a minimum of 100hp more. Story and image via Motor Trend.
